Recently, there was a LOT of activity in our lives here. In addition to springtime arriving with its pristine daily weather and colorful flowers on the hillside, we have been part of several gatherings and opportunities to connect.
We joined a crew of fellow friends and students to complete the “Kolti Fun Run,” a 10k walk/run/jog but mostly drag that takes participants down several hundred feet to the village of Kolti (just outside our kitchen window) and back up to the top of our hillside (it took us 3 hours). Participants then feasted on tacos at one of the teacher housing complexes and hung out to celebrate.
I participated in and completed Jazz Jam (a student production with dinner served by 9th graders that’s somewhere between Concord’s Pops and Jazz Cafe in style) as well as my final concert here. With about 12 rehearsals in each class this semester we managed to put on some music. It wasn’t the easiest concert to pull off, but we’re proud of the kids!
I participated in Lion King, the non-musical, as Simba. The cast was comprised mostly of staff but also a few students, and it ended up being pretty fun in the end. I got to work with several people who I don’t normally get to interact with, and despite all the lighting cues getting deleted EXACTLY AT CURTAIN TIME, we managed to pull off a show the community enjoyed.
